he Nationwide Tour is the developmental tour for the U.S.-based PGA Tour, and features professional golfers who have either failed to score well enough at that level's Qualifying School (the main tour's qualifying tournament, popularly referred to as "Q-School") to earn their PGA Tour card, or who have done so but then failed to win enough money to stay at that level. Those who are on the top 25 of the money list at year's end are given PGA Tour memberships for the next season.

The WGC-Cadillac Championship is one of the four annual World Golf Championships tournaments for male professional golfers. It is sanctioned and organized by the International Federation of PGA Tours and the prize money is official money on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. From 1999 through 2006 it was known as the WGC-American Express Championship and was held during October. From 2007 to 2010, it was known as the WGC-CA Championship. Since 2007 it takes place in March. After the 2010 event, CA Inc.announced that they would not renew their sponsorship of the tournament.It was announced on November 29, 2010 that Cadillac would be the new sponsor in a multi-year sponsorship deal.

During its first eight years, the event was played at different locations in the United States and Europe. Since 2007 it has been played annually on the TPC Blue Monster course at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, in Doral, Florida. Doral was previously the site of the tournament the Cadillac Championship replaced on the PGA Tour schedule, the Ford Championship at Doral. Tiger Woods has won the event six times out of its eleven stagings.

The Presidents Cup is played every two years and pits the U.S. team against the International team. Presidents Cup team match play competition featuring 24 of the world's top golfers - 12 from the United States and 12 from around the world, excluding Europe. The International team is comprised of golfers from outside the U.S. and Europe. The Presidents Cup is run by the PGA Tour.

The 2011 event will be held at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club (site of the only victory by the International Team in 1998). Greg Norman will captain the International team and Fred Couples the United States team.

Melbourne becomes the first city outside of the United States to host the prestigious match-play competition more than once.

Format and strategy:

The scoring system of the event is match play. The format is drawn from the Ryder Cup, consisting of twelve players per side and a non-playing captain, usually a highly respected golf figure. The captains are responsible for pairing the teams in the doubles events, which consist of both alternate shot and best ball formats (also known as "foursome" and "four ball" matches respectively) However, unlike the Ryder Cup, all twelve players must play foursome and four ball matches on Thursday and Friday (six matches per session, unlike the Ryder Cup with four matches), and only two players will sit out each session of Saturday matches (five matches per Saturday session, compared to four), and each player must play a one-on-one, singles match on Sunday.

History:

The event was created and is organized by the PGA Tour. At the inaugural Presidents Cup in 1994, former U.S. President Gerald Ford was Honorary Chairman. Subsequent events saw former President George H. W. Bush, then-Australian Prime Minister John Howard, then-President Bill Clinton, the former President of South Africa Thabo Mbeki, George W. Bush and the Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper in the chair.
